Forested Ranges

The limestone and greywacke ranges are largely cleared but significant remnants remain. The warm humid climate  supports a richly diverse rainforest. Some species reach their southern limit here and others are  found further south only in coastal settings. Species are listed in order of their establishment after disturbance (succession). Early sucessional species will predominate in the early stages of forest establishment and gradually give way to later sucessional species as the canopy grows higher. Only  the  characteristic species are listed.
