River flood plains.

The Waikato river regularly spreads over the surrounding floodplain, and in the lower reaches, alluvial islands, depositing pumice silt and submerging the vegetation sometimes several metres deep for weeks at a time. As it approaches the coast, coastal and lake margin species appear and gradually predominate. Species are listed from disturbed areas to established forest.
