Peatlands.

Peat forms over thousands of years when lack of oxygen in poorly drained areas leads to a build up of undecomposed plant litter. This can accumulate to many metres in depth and produces a soil that is poorly drained and very low in nutrients. The species here are listed in order of tolerance of these extreme conditions.
