Coastal Headland: Pohutokawa puriri forest.

Coastal headlands are moderately exposed to wind and salt spray, relatively frost free with steep well drained soil. Supporting taller forest than more exposed stacks and sea cliffs, many species are found here are shade tolerant and shade intolerant species found on more exposed sites are absent where forest is mature. Early succession species include Hebe stricta, Leptospermum Scoparium, Coprosma robusta, Kunzea ericoidies, Olearia furfuraceae, Hebe macrocarpa and Pomaderris rugosa.
